This is where young riders learn the sport from the ground up, develop real horsemanship, and become part of a supportive, high-level team.

The 'Squad' refers to our Endurance Team. Members of the squad compete in the sport of Endurance all over Australia and even Internationally. We teach the sport from the ground up, with members learning every aspect. From strapping at rides to learning how to prepare and care for their horses. Team-work and personal responsibility rank highly. Squadees can expect to ride through the ranks from Novice Rider, through Open status, with many going on to qualify and compete internationally for Australia.

This requires a certain level of ability and commitment, but for our team, the sky is the limit!

There are many benefits to becoming a Squadee.

Team members will gain hands-on experience in everything from horse care and training to nutrition and conditioning, while also developing vital life skills like teamwork, responsibility, resilience, and commitment. Each rider is paired with one or more of our trusted endurance horses to learn on, train with, and compete alongside.

You do not need your own horse, and you will always have a Splendacrest horse to ride.

Whether you're aiming for your first 20km ride or dreaming of 160km success, you’ll have guidance, support, and a strong team around you every step of the way.

Splendcrest boasts an exceptional completion rate in the sport of endurance, and our squadees have been the recipient of many awards, including The Timms Team Trophy for State Championships, The Michael Gabriel Award, Marathon Awards, Tom Quilty Gold Cup buckles and many 100% completions awards.

Notably many of our riders have qualified for ride for Australian in International Competition, with 3 of our current team selected for the World Youth Endurance Championships, due to be held in Romania later this year.

We embody the spirit of 'To Finish is to Win'

Membership of the Squad is usually by invitation only. With a minimum age of 12 most of our Squadees have progressed through the Splendacrest Riding School and have shown a great natural ability and dedication to horses.

We will consider applications from interested young riders between the ages of 12-18 that are already comfortable in the saddle and are looking to start in the sport, subject to a riding assessment.

Experienced adult riders looking to start, or continue in the sport under a lease arrangement are welcome to contact us for more information.

There are a number of commitments that are expected from Squadees, including, but not limited to:-

Riders must endeavour to attend at least 3 times per week
Feeding, grooming and cleaning up after your horse is a part of riding
Riders are expected to do their fair share of strapping duties at rides
Uniforms of shirts, caps and jackets are provided free of charge, and expected to be worn at competitions.
Squadees should be willing to help during Kid's Camps, Bday Parties, etc
Teams members are always helpful and polite when representing Splendacrest in public

Team Membership & Costs

$650 per month – Covers horse use, coaching, training rides, and team support.
$20 fuel surcharge per competition – Helps with transport to and from events.
Entry fees not included – Riders are responsible for their own competition entry fees.

🔸 While these costs help us run the program, they don’t reflect the full expense of maintaining a high-level endurance team — including feed, gear, vet care, shoeing, transport, and more.
🔸 We keep fees as affordable as possible because we’re passionate about creating opportunities for young riders to experience endurance, develop life skills, and be part of a supportive, inspiring team.
